YIN AND NIDRA - with TONY and MOKSHA
Yin Yoga is a quiet, meditative practice involving long-held static floor postures to help stress the bones and deeper tissues of the body. Energetically, Yin yoga improves the energy flow, enhancing the flow of chi in the organs. To be healthy, we need healthy organs as well as healthy muscles. Yin yoga also offers wonderful emotional and mental health benefits. The long, passive holds activate the parasympathetic nervous system (our rest and digest system).
Benefits of a regular Yin yoga practice -
-Increases circulation and improves flexibility
-Calms and balances the mind and body
-Reduces stress and anxiety
-Releases fascia
-Encourages deeper relaxation
-Improves joint mobility
-Brings balance to the organs through meridian stimulation
We will start with a 90 minute Yin class, followed by a 60-minute session of Nidra yoga. Nidra means “consciuos sleep,” and is described as the mental state between wakefulness and sleep. Yoga nidra is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, where our body is relaxed and our mind is awake. It’s a type of guided meditation designed to help us access our theta and delta brainwaves (which help with creativity and problem-solving) while keeping us in our beta state (everyday consciousness state).
Yoga nidra is done in a savasana-like pose. Students are encouraged to use as many blankets, pillows and blocks to be as comfortable as possible. The idea is, to be so completely relaxed as to “sink into bliss.”
As mental and physical rest begins, students are invited to give themselves a positive affirmation or suggestion to meditate on throughout the exercise. The class will end in quiet contemplation giving you time to settle.
There will be some hot herbal tea and nibbles to help you ground after.
